Edwards, Darren J. , Functional Contextual Implementation of an Evolutionary, Entropy-Based, and Embodied Free Energy Framework: Utilizing Lagrangian Mechanics and Evolutionary Game Theory’s Truth vs. Fitness Test of the Veridicality of Phenomenological Experience
Transdisciplinary paper arguing that evolution does not select brains towards veridicality, but rather towards evolutionary fitness. The abstract claims to tie it in with predictive processing ideas.
Questions before I read:
- is truth fit?
- how are you characterising fitness? in what environments?
- do you narrow your idea of fitness enough to be computationally useful? (I'd be surprised. this is too broad a paper.)
- Related concepts for which I'd like to clarify the relationship further:
- predictive processing
- satisficing
- adversarial neural networks
- coevolution
- exaptation (in particular, because of the way the introduction discusses the tapetum lucidum; and also because I think exaptation is cool and useful)
