Treatise on the nature of convention. Puts forward the idea of a composite object of consensus that lives in the social imagination, reified out of its usage, provably present because it can be used to successfully coordinate action. I see maddening beautiful associations between this work and Searle's on rules. What do Searle's constitutive/regulative rules[cite:@searleSpeechActsEssay1969], Lewis' convention theory[cite:@lewisConventionCambridge1969], and Chen and Micali's generalized-utility style coalitions[cite:@chennew2009] have in common?
